Default Is it normal for first gear to bang of the rev limiter early?

I went to the track the other day and my first gear will bang off the rev limiter early. It started banging around 5800, but my second and third gears go all the way to the stock set rev limiter 6200. Is this normal or somthing wrong with my first gear? Oh by the way I have a M6! Any help would be appreciated.

If we are talking the factory tach. Then yes your tach will read 5.8 k because the factory tach is slow. It is even worse if you add an under drive pulley, the tach just cant keep up with the engine. Yours is off by 400 rpm mine is more like 750-1000 rpm and i cant stand it. I recntly bought a new tach but havent installed it yet. When i do we will see how much the factory tach is off by

All of the '98 cars I've driven have very accurate Tachs, but the 99+ models I've driven had some SLOW *** tachometers. Even the Corvettes!

Solution: Get a shift lite.

Tony

Tony,
I have a shift light. Just this once I decided to go with the tach and not the light, and thats when I noticed it banging early.

Just posted....I guess I should search first. Sorry. I guess I am not the only victim. I am definitely lucky that I don't spray in first. I guess the MSD switch would not match with the tach reading and then....boom. I wonder if the MSD switch in messing with the programming somehow. I did splice in the correct pin(#10). Any comments or should I leave well enough alone.
Thanks, Randy

I got an autometer tach w/shiftlight and its a huge difference at WOT, I will take a pic one time to show how far back the stock tach is
