Weird Power Loss

On occasion I get a "power-loss" or maybe detonation at 5500-5800 rpm in first gear..only.
There is no loss in other gears. WTF? The car runs strong w/this exception. Any ideas. BTW, I do not turn the juice on till I am deep into second gear. I just recently put a MSD switch on(3000-6000) and also had my TB ported. But, again this is happening N/A. I do have a GMAFS.

I personaly haven't had any problems with my Gmaf. On the dyno, the hp and tq are smooth all the way. No KR either. It does sound like you are getting false knock which would be retarding the timing and causing a power loss. 1st gear only though is kinda strange. Do you feel any weird vibration when this happens?

Thanks all for the input. I just recently learned that the 98-00 LS1's can hit the limiter in first gear at 5800rpm. Which means the tach is off from the actual. This would explain why I am only having this problem in first. I am ordering a MAFT and ATap soon as spring hits. I have read enough posts that highly recommend this.
Does the GMAF richen or lean out the engine? When I ATap N/A how will that effect it on N2O?
I guess there is a whole lot to learn on this subject.
