Default 2000's get no gain from macs???

"There was a post here a while ago where someone with a 2000 got macs and had no horsepower gains. Only people who see gains with the Macs are people with 98s and 99s because of the updated manifolds on the 2000 cars"

Is this true? probably looking for tesitmonials here. I am supposed to get macs in a couple weeks but if no gains are in the cards for 2000 I'll do gears.

Thanks in advance.

I have heard that the new manifolds flow better than some aftermarket shorty headers. Mid-length and long tube headers should offer some improvement, though.

Oh, and FWIW, I dropped an average of 5 tenths off my times by changing from 3.42 to 3.73 gears, so if you're looking for 1/4 mile gains as opposed to HP gains, I'd go with the gears anyway.

5 tenths going from 3.42 to 3.73? Did the gear change involve sticky tires as well?

Well, I think driver experience may have contributed. All I can say is I went from average times from between 13.8 and 13.6 to average times of 13.2 and 13.1 after the gear change. And, oddly enough, the 13.6 with a 2.0 60' with the 3.42 gears was on cold ET Streets (didn't quite have the brake stance thing down yet) and the 13.10 with a 2.2 60' was on street tires with the 3.73 gears. I have an M6 if that tells you anything. My best 60' on a slipping clutch is still only around a 1.9. Track location and preperation could also be a factor as well. The 13.10 was at Hallsville, the 13.6 was at Ennis, and my average times of 13.1 and 13.2 of late were all done at Houston Raceway Park. Once I changed the gears, though, the car seemed to get into the power band in first and second gear much quicker.

Whoever said you won't see gains from Macs on ANY year LS1, needs to give it up...

You should see a solid 15+ rwhp from going to a set of Macs. I have seen people gain as high as 25 rwhp from Macs <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0"> . They are an excellent headers, especially for the man on a budget(like most of us). They can also be ported out to flow even better.

I have a 2000 and I did not see alot of horse power gain on a dyno! But I think the headers are making my car run RICH! Soon I will have my auto tap and be able to tell you if the above is true or not!

Who knows every car is different too.

People that don't gain power means the car is not tuned right. To rich or lean will take away power.Simple as a MAFT away.

I picked up 15rwhp on my wife's 2000 TA through an unlocked converter. I've seen much higher on some 2000+ 6-speed cars as well.
