Default LS1 guys, could very cold weather cause my car's...

rear window to vibrate loudly on moderate to hard acceleration around 2000 rpm or so because of a loud after market cat-back exhaust system?

I already posted something similar to this once but did not get much of a response. So here goes again:

Within the last couple of weeks my car's rear window has started vibrating quite loud around 2000 rpm or a little higher when I accelerate a harder than normal without going WOT. To me, this problem is obviously related to my GMMG Chambered Exhaust because the noise is rpm dependant. It doesn't do it in the lower rpms and not in the higher rpms either. Just as I described above. This system gets very loud around 2000-2500rpm, hence, right where this loud vibration is occuring. I took the car to the local dealership and they said that the 20 and 30 degree winter weather was causing my window to make this noise because the aftermarket exhaust system is so loud, especially inside and from the rear of the car. It never did it before for the first 4 1/2 months that I had this exhaust, but it also hasn't been this damn cold in a long time either.

Didn't mean to make such a long post but this rear window vibration is ANNOYING and I don't want to have to remove the GMMG to fix this problem even though it seems exhaust related to me. BTW, nothing is loose in the back of the car as everything including the window and exhaust has been thoroughly checked over.

So can very cold weather combined with a loud exhaust system do this to a Camaro or might it be something else?

I just hope it goes away when the weather warms up because it is starting to actually ruin my nice car since the vibration is so freakin loud.

Thanks to anyone who can help,

Mike

It's probably the hatch that is vibrating and not really the window. Try unscrewing the rubber tabs 1 turn on the hatch. This will tighten it down and just might fix your problem.

Yes, this vibration is coming from the rear window/hatch area! Thanks for the tip. But what do you mean by unscewing the tabs? Wouldn't that make the hatch even looser or does it actually tighten up something?

Sorry if this seems like a ridiculous question but its really late right now and I just want to make sure I do this right.

Thank You

Open your hatch and look up. You will see a big rubber screw on the left and right side of the hatch. Backing them out one turn or half turn will tighten it up. The more you back these screws out, the more they lift up on the hatch. If you do it too much then your hatch release may not work.

Thanks again Jamie. I'll let you know later today if this fixes the problem. I sure hope so.

Well I tried unscrewing those two rubber screws every which way, including how you told me to but had no luck. Every time I took my car out for a test drive the vibration was loud and clear as usual. Don't get me wrong as it does not do it every single minute, but it is there a lot. I swear that this vibration is my rear window or something in that back area of the hatch that is linked to the window. Since the dealership won't do anything and I can't seem to fix this problem I guess I'll have no choice but to live with this until I get rid of the car. Hopefully it will just go away sometime as it was never there before.

Any other ideas as to what I could check or do to stop this loud vibration from occurring? Maybe I didn't readjust the screws properly?
