Default oil pump question

I am doing a cam/head/intake swap on my car and have a question. I see on here all the time that it is recommended to swap out the oil pump on an LS1 for an LS6 pump. What is the difference in the two pumps and what makes the LS6 pump so much better than the LS1? Is there a difference in the way they are made internally?

Later LS1 and LS6 and now LS4 pumps have a better releif valve that dosnt have a tendency to get stuck open venting oil pressure at idle.

I was wondering the same thing. I hear early model LS1's had oil issues.

stock pumps are fine if they are checked out and installed properly...most oil pressure problems are not the pump. More volume and pressure can waste horsepower and not help a bit.
