Default Questions about Mac headers

Trying to keep cost way down. Seems like gains from Macs to full LT's are minimal with stock heads/cam.

Questions for Mac users:

1) Did you have yours coated? If not, did they rust? If so, where?

2) I hear it recommended to replace the collector with a Flowmaster unit. I'm assuming this means the Y-pipe collector, right? I have a 3" pipe from the current stock Y back to the cutout.

3) Any other recommendations?

Thanks.

Default Re: Questions about Mac headers

I am about to be working on this project myself very soon. It is my understanding that to get the most from the Macs , it is best to weld the exterior of the primary tubes and port match the insides to a gasket so the flow lines up and the flow is increased. Also it is recommended that you cut the Ball flanges off the headers and used 3"-3 bolt flanges in place of them at the Y-pipe. Yes the flowmaster collector on the y-pipe is definitely a good mod. After all of this done , then have them "Hot Jet Coated". This is not only for rust prevention , but also for under the hood heat disipation. Hope this helps. I'll post my results after I'm done. I have pulled a NA best of 11.98 ET through the stock exhaust manifolds and I'm hoping for 3/10ths. Take care.
