is there a way to calculate what my pushrod length should be verses having to tear off the valve covers...

def. sounds like a loose rocker to me. could be bent pushrod, improperly adj. rocker, incorrect pushrod, bad lifter, badly worn cam. you should be able to figure out what side that noise is comeing from by holding a long screwdriver against the valve cover and putting your ear to the plastic end of the screwdriver. do both sides like that and you should be able to hear that one noisey rocker. then take that side off and see if any of them are loose. sounds like something is wrong to me.

I take it you have adjustable rockers? If so i would just readjust. Mine was that way and I have it torn down right now. Putting new lifters and cam and lifter trays in. Maybe that will fix my tick

wow - some serous valve train noise

doesnt sound as bad when i broke a rocker stud though - that sounded wicked horrible (damn mustang)

personally tear it apart and double check everything, sucks to do but worth it for peace of mind and saving alot of $$$ down the road
