Default Lengthening the Crankshaft positioning sensor.

Has anyone done this?
Back in August when my H/C when in, the protective heatwrap was shifted and my headers(SLP Longs) cooked the whole kaboodle.
At that time I lengthened the harness about 6 inches with a generic Delco harness and thought I had heatwrapped sufficiently.
4 months later it was doing it again.
This time the wiring in the harness was just a little hard as was the pass. primary O2 wiring.
So again I wrapped in heat shield, enough to save the *** of the space shuttle.
I used heat woven cloth wrapped by reflecta shield tape and tied it off with metal zipties.
Well here it is 4 months later and it's getting hot again.
My only solution feels like I'm going to have to lengthen the entire harness enough to avoid the headers altogether, i.e.- go down the inner well and back up on the tranny.
PSJ, you emailed me on what I had done previously, how did you or anyone avoid going thru the center of the headers or along side it.
I'm lucky now because it's still around 60', but our summers tend to get a little hot.
Help please, thanks in advance.

You mean lengthening the actual signal wire to the pcm?

Mine are lengthened right now.

Matter of fact, we cut the entire wire from the pcm to the sensor!

I have it routed down around the motor mount.

That was the cause of my loss of ignition / backfire problem last year.

Exactly. Lengthening so there's room to avoid the pipes.
Sorry, but my car is not in my garage right now, if you came in on the motor mount where did you cross over from the fender at?
Up top, in thru the headers, down along the fender well?
Also did you just use similar gauge wiring or did you get a generic Delco harness?
I've been told that changing gauge could affect the signal to the PCM due to resistance.

Email my buddy Russ aka pureevil79@aol.com, he led the rewiring of the sensor. He works with electronics for a living, so he used the right wire. It works perfectly.

We just have it routed more by the #2 primary... Kind of the long way around.

Right on, I'll email him tomorrow.
Thanks.
I find it hard to believe with as many long tubes out there as there are, you and I are the only one with this problem.

LMAO... I totally agree.

I didn't want to cut the wires, but now it's no biggie.

Next time I am going to take the other wires, which are for the front passenger side 02, and move that as well.
