Default Running low 11s, high 10s without NOS

Hi guys. Nice site you have here. I'm a turbo Buick guy that stopped by to try and learn a bit more about LS1 cars and how you guys make them run.

I'm wondering what kind of mods you guys are using to get an F-body LS1 into the low 11/high 10 second area without using NOS? N/A, supercharged, or turbo would be ok. How would you get an LS1 to run this fast, and what driveline components like rearend, trans, etc., would have to be upgraded? What about cost? Thanks.

Motor? stock bottom end 346. Heads GOOD stage 2's with a medium sized cam. Somewhere around a 222/222 would do it. (did it for me)

Tranny? A rebuilt Yank 4L60E with a Yank Pro Thruster 4400 converter.

Rear end? stock with 3.73 gears

Suspension? LCA/PH and an air bag.

Misc: headers, programming, bolt ons.

Thats it. There is a lot of info on how "I" did it on my web page. check it out. (see sig.)

Welcome to LS1tech, y'all come back now... ya hear?

Are you the guy I met at Erwindale 1/8th mile raceway?

Running high 10s on a blower/turbo setup is pretty easy. Stock weight, tranny rebuild, stall, better rear end, blower package, stock motor, etc. Probably set you back 12k in parts.

Running high 10s on motor takes some weight reduction, but can still come in around 10-12k.

A few folks have gone high 10's with a stock cube motor. Those are are very drag oriented and prolly weigh in at <3200 lbs. FYI a stock F-Body is about 3450 and after you add driver weight you are at 3650 w/o a rollbar. So 3720lbs before you even start taking weight out.

Some have gone 10's with bigger motors.

Some have gotten then with superchargers and turbos.

I'd go with an automatic tranny.

I always like 'Gold Formula', Brian went 11.1 back in 2000 with a intercooled 9lb Vortech, and boltons.

Take a look in drag racing, and look at the lists we maintain.

My car has a big motor, and we're still dialing it in.

But I have gone 11.1 on pump gas at 3600 raceweight at 800 ft above sea level. Even shifting my 422ci at 6100 would probably yield me a 10.9 at HRP.

Thanks for the info fellas. It's always nice to see what the competition is up to. The LS1 cars are nice rides and are one of the few cars that gets my blood pumping besides my GN. If only I had the money to own both!!

Terry Burger, sorry I've never run at Irwindale before.

I have run 11.1s with a hydraulic-cammed all-bore 382ci setup that passed emissions and got 24 mpg on the highway. This is a full weight 6-speed car also.

See my website for details
