Damn, your car ought to be a screamer! It's like I said in an earlier post, these nice peak #'s from the bigger cams will be nice with the right setup (fat stall for autos, steep gears, meaty tires, etc.). You have the steep gears covered, no doubt! Just be sure to have someone videoing your runs. We all need to see the 4.71's in action! We finally have a drag racer trying one of the larger cams.

It takes some big ***** to run 4.71 gears. A long long time ago I put 4.56 gears in my 71 Firebird (TH400), and man it was crazy. It made that 14 second car feel like a 10 second car.

I think the new cam will compliment the setup well. As others have said, get some 28" full slicks.

Haha...I already have one. Damn POS GM rings LOL

I'm not too concerned with oil burning. I'm freshening it up soon, but I'm planning on something more radical next year. Big motor = MUCH BIGGER cam haha

Hoosier makes an EXCELLENT slick! I highly recommend them. The size you mentioned ought to work perfect.

The 28x10x15 slick is on its way to my house I type this. It is an awesome slick! I also have Prostar 15x10s and 4.56s coming as well.. They might not be 4.71s, but I think I'll like them. LOL

Hey Brian, that sounds like a dare from Chris, I know that you are a nutcase, but are you crazy enough to launch off the rev limiter? Cya, Bill

Fireball, your set up sounds excellent, but i have to comment on some of what has been said here.First GM updated rings are for increased radial tension to cure hi vacuum/hi rpm oil consumption problem, this condition has nothing to do with hi rpm low vacuum(racing) conditions.Either set of rings is up for what your going to do, so dont sweat that. Second the Ls1 weakness(if any) is hypereutectic pistons, like cast they dont like anything over 7000rpm.
I dont believe lower end has any other strength issues, oil pump failures from hi rpm break rods from seizing rod bearing to crank, not rod being unreliable at 7000+ rpm. Make your oil pump reliable and your pretty much set,i wouldnt lose sleep over stock bottom end IMO.Use synthetic oil for best bearing insurance. I think your set up will open some eyes, good luck!
