Default RPM limit of a stock shortblock?

What kind of rpm will a stock bottom end hold up to? I have seen people shifting at 6600 and never had any problems. I see Fireball wants to shift around 6800 and people are telling him he may get 20 passes before it breaks. Any tips on how to make a stocker live with 7000 rpm shift points? Modded oil pump and thicker oil perhaps?

SAM spun their solid roller setup up to 7800 rpms (verified by the data logger) for several passes without problems. But would I do that? Hell no

the ASA LS-1 engines have stock parts and cut off at 6800 and if you have the updated rod bolts there should be no problem. i think the updated rod bolts were started in 2000.

I've always heard 6600 is about the most you can safely go!!!

I'm gonna twist mine till it breaks LOL

I'm going to build up a budget bottom end with stock parts, ARP rod bolts and a balanced crank/rod assembly. I'm hoping that'll live at 7K rpm

Brians is corrrect.A budget short block w/ a balance along with a quality piston, good rod bolts + arp kit will spin to 7500 no problem.

Hey Brian just go solid roller
I'm gonna build the same SB for my car too
I wanna rev to 7000 to 7200 later in the yr.
For now 6800 will be it on the STOCK SB

I really wanted to go solid roller but $$$ this year is too tight to budget it in since I really needed to do a bottom end too

I'm also gonna run some federal mogul bearings and am still unsure what ring I'm gonna run

Thats exactly what getting built now for me....

Iron 6.0 block
forged piston
New GM crank
Stock rods
Strong rod bolts

I'm hoping to spin at least 7500.

We will see how long it lasts.
