Default Oil Pump Question

I have a question about my oil pump.

I was talking to some friends today at dinner and the subject of oil pumps came up and the weakness on LS1s.

Well, on the way home I noticed the following:

Normal driving, oil pressure wsa fine.
But when car was in Drive and I was stopped the pressure would fluctuate between about 32 and 40psi. As it was fluctuating I could hear the engine rev up higher and drop down, rev up higher and drop down. Now it's done this (the revving up and down) since I got my Super Thruster 3500 installed, so I believe this is because of the decreased size and weight of the new converter.

The idle while in drive will fluctuate between about 600 and 750, ( I think around that range, may be 650 to 800), i've done the math before and the average idle stays where it should be (700 or 750) and the standard deviation is like 25 or 50 RPMs, which seems pretty reasonable.

My QUestion is, while in Drive, w/full brake, should the oil pressure be fluctuating like that? Or is this a sign of a failing pump?

When the car's in park it stays right at 39 or 40 psi and doesn't move a much.

Car is a 2000 TA w/about 28,000 miles on it

If your engine is surging, the pressure will vary.

It does run off the crank after all <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

32 to 40 sounds normal for those RPM ranges
