Well we finished the valvespring swapout last night. If you'll recall I broke a 941. We thought that a piece of one coil had disintegrated when in fact, it was a very clean break with probably very little in the way of particulate getting dumped into the pan. Indeed, when we looked at the drain plug, it had no fragments, just a tiny bit of sludge on it.
The screw-down spring compressor sucks a$$. Do you or your wrench-it group of friends a favor and buy the nicer ratchet type setup. My thumbs are raw beef this morning.
Toughest part was the back passenger side springs.
Car runs quieter (it seems) with the 918s (probably due to the fact that they are single coils vs the 941's dual coils). I still need to ATAP it thoroughly...but it seems like everything is running well.
Thanks go out to DenzSS and my Dad! Couldnt have done it without ya!

John,
Im not sure what the mechanism looks like, I just know there is a much more friendly type. Supposedly its tough to get a hold of...the only guy that has one around here that we know of ordered it online somewhere.
If I get more info on it, Ill pass it on, otherwise Im sure some of the tool-Gods on here will chime in.

Here is the spring compressor Jeff is talking about.

I use them on cam/valvespring swaps and it works great, especially on the rear passenger side springs.
I also use the KD2078 and it works just as good. I usually use this on all the other valvesprings.

I have the KD #3271 myself, and it works well. If you're really lazy, you can use an air ratchet on it to really speed things up as well.

The 2078 is what we used. And as more than one write up will tell you, you must keep the threads oiled or youll be fighting it in the tight spots. Even with it oiled, I found it very tough on my delicate little rose-petal thumbs.
