whine in t-56

whine in t-56 Man , I hope this is just my imagination , But my tranny seems to whine in 1-3 gears , not a real loud whine , But I have never noticed it before , my car only has 20,000 miles on it , could the fluid needs changed ? I thought I was getting away from week trannys when I got rid of my mustangs !!!!

The T-56 is a damn strong tranny, with the possible exception of the shift forks bending a tad too easily and the syncros wearing out quickly. Certainly, it's TONS stronger than the weak-as-water T-5 (T-45? can't remember) in the 'Stang. NE1 know the rated torque input for the T-56??
Regardless, I do get a little bit of gear whine from my T-56, but certainly nothing I believe indicates a problem. The T-56 design just has a quirk or two. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Now, if you've got an incredibly loud whining noise, be concerned. If it's just faint whining though, I'd say it's probably a'ight. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Re: whine in t-56 I think the stock rated t-56 is like 450lbs of torque...not sure on that # though...I'm sure this will get moved to the drivetrain for ya...

Re: whine in t-56 If its whining, it probably isn't much to worry about. I've had a few of mine whine slightly after beating the hell out of them. When they start to grind between shifts, save up for a synchro rebuild. About $750.
