Default Degreed in the XE-R cam tonite...

The cam is spec'd by Comp at 224/228 112 110 0.581 0.588 (as per the cam card).

The lobes are advertised as...

@0.006" 273 277
@0.050" 224 228
@0.200" 146 149

0.342" 0.346"

I installed it tonite on a 112.5 intake centerline and proceeded to check the specs. Here what I found...

@0.006" 276 279
@0.050" 225 226
@0.200" 145 146

@0.050
IVO (BTDC) 0.0
IVC (ABDC) 45.0
EVO (BBDC) 45.0
EVC (ATDC) 1.0

0.340" 0.340"

The lobes are definitely off from where they should be. The lobe separation worked out to 112.25 degrees. It really pays to check it once it goes in.

That is interesting Tim.. Why do they advertise one spec and it turns out to be another? I looked back at the Xtreme lobe list and the advertised duration specs are very close. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Unfortunately, some cam grinders use different lift numbers for this spec. The duration at .050" is used as a standard to compare all cams. You can also use both the advertised and the .050" durations to help determine ramp rates.

This cam rawks!

That's disappointing. comp is usally very good about producing to the specs.

I talked to Nick and he said mine came in a little larger at .050 than advertised.

Well I went back and took another look at things. I discovered why things were so far off from what I would have expected. I'm using the Comp Cams part #4925 to degree in the cam. This tool slides into the lifter bore and the guage is attached at the top. The follower end is curved to emulate a roller lifter. On this particular piece the very tip off the follower was machined poorly. The tip was slightly raised and did not follow the contour of the rest of the follower. I cleaned up the tip and re-degreed the cam.

This time...

274.5 277.0
225.5 227.0
145.5 147.0

0.341 0.341

Much better!

The intake center line is at 112.25.

You'll be needing more than that cam on stock heads to beat me soon Tim <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I'm about to show you and Richie a thing or two. What's the deal with ls1edit. we going to go in on it or what?

Let me know

Glad to see the I/C was on the money. Should be a good cam. My 226/226 on a 112+4 XE-R goes in weekend after next.

I used a Comp Cams timing set to set the IC at 112. The cam was ground with 2 degrees of advance.

I clayed the heads today and ended up with 0.146" clearance on the intake and 0.140" on the exhaust side. This was with stock heads/valves and stock head gasket in place.

Hey Tim! Are you running stock heads? If so, whcih springs did you go with? Do you think this cam will make more power/tq than let's say a 224/224? I wish it was mine. Sounds like a lot-o-fun. Thanks!
