i'm researching like a good little newbie, but am very hard pressed for time (boss keeps poking his head in) and basically confused. is there a link to explain cams and what all the numbers mean and how they affect drivability, idle, lope etc. . .

if anyone wants to address this, i know it's been done and done and done, i would really appreciate it.

A4, 3.42/PI3200, K&N FIPK, Borla Catback, GMAF, HPP3, Tranny cooler w/ shift kit. Macs w/cats soon, stock heads.

want nice low idle, lopiness is not really a concern. need to pass emmissions, gas mileage is a concern. want cam that will accomodate stock heads and stageII's later. no PCM tuning yet.

Go with a XE-R 224/224 114LSA 581/581 lift cam. Should idle well with a bit of fiddling and pass emissions too. It will also make great power from 4000-6800rpm perfect for S2's later and your current converter combo.

with emissions and a low idle both concerns id stick to about a 220 duration. Comp has an XE and XE-R lobe on 220. The XE-R will be a bit rougher on springs due to the fast ramp rates, but should provide a bit more power.

9 times out of 10 the bigger the duration and lower the LSA (like 112 vs. 114) the greater the lope or rough idle of a cam.q
