I bent 6 pushrods. I've replaced them and it still sounds like before and it feels the same. I did a compression check and I have 0 compression and 130 in another. I haven't checked the rest but I bet it's the 0 compression that's messed me up. I'm pretty sure I bent valves. If I get aftermarket heads and do a cam should this fix my problem? Also is there anything else I should check while the motor is out of my car? Thanks for the help in advance.

 

If you get a set of ported Ls1 heads, most complanies sell them completely assembled. There are no aftermarket heads available, they are all Gm castings just ported. Maybe check you pistons, too make sure no contact was made????

 

If you wiped 6 pushrods and some valves, I would defiantly check your piston crowns for damage.

 

I agree with what the other two guys say about checking the pistons...

But.... What did you do to bend SIX pushrods?? That is crazy. Most people bend 1 or 2 with a missed shift, but Six with valve damage is the most I have seen on this forum.

I had the same thing happen to me and I had about 6 valve "kisses" on my piston heads. Now my question is how bad before the pistons "truely" need to be replaced. I'm not going to be running nitrous and plan on doing upgraded pistons & heads next year.

LoL 9 ****. Oh I was racing and beat the **** out of an lt1 and I hit the rev as I was shifting and that was it. It was the first race and I race two other times and drove 30 miles before it mess up and I noticed a diffence. Oh and my car only has a lid and cutout. Thanks for your help.

 

The best thing you can do is get a set of ported heads and cam now. I bent all 8 intake valves, and all 16 pushrods and somehow not a scratch one on a piston. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Go figure.

I didn't do anything to the motor when they heads were off. That was retarded of me. I should, have got heads/cam right then and saved me the trouble of going back in a second time when I decided I was ready.

ERic</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah I'd really like to go ahead and replace the heads with some ported ones but after buying SLP LT headers, LS6 intake, cam package, new tires, money is kinda of low right now so I'm just trying to find out what other "low cost" things I could do to the heads before putting them back on. Any idea how bad damage to piston from valve has to be before you need to replace the pistons?

In my LT1 I broke 5 rods and the cam broke into three pieces

If your valves just kissed your piston heads, you will be looking at only a slight indent... this is okay. I think most people who have blown a valvetrain have these tattooed on one or two pistons... I do.

If you have a gouge though, with sharp edges, then you should replace the pistons. If you don't you may end up with piston chunks later.

Also, another thing to look at with excessive contact between the valve and the piston. I don't know how the crank on these cars fair with such damage, but you can also develop crank problems with excessive piston-valve contact.

 

Wait, let me get this right... You bent 6 pushrods just by hitting your limiter? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Did you raise the limiter or anything? It just seems sorta odd to me. I've banged my limiter more times than I can count and the car is fine. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
