Default Knocking Noise and an oil consumption problem

Well I thought I had the common LS1 knock which so many people talk about, I took it to 3 different dealers and they all said the noise was normal, but I never really thought that could be a normal noise. Anyways I got mac headers and off road y pipe put on and now the noise is about 25% louder, and then to add to my aggrivation my low oil light kicks on after a 3 hour drive to tallahasse, im just looking for some help on what to do, and wondering if anyone else has had an oil consumption problem after a long drive or if the knock and oil are connected in some way.

You sure the noise you are hearing after the header install is not more of a ticking sound? I put the "Riptide" restrictions in the air fittings to the headers to do away with the ticking sound.

Do you check your oil often? How much oil comsumption are you talking about.

Does the knocking get faster with revs?

definatly a knocking noise, the guy that installed my headers said it may be a bleeding lifter but he never really looked into any further, and I lost about 2 quarts of oil <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Possible piston to bore clearance issue? That would explain the knocking noise and the excessive oil consumption. Just something to think about.

I would keep a CLOSE eye on the oil level. I check mine everytime before I pull it out of the garage just for reassurance. I have plenty of piston slap on cold starts, but it goes away once I'm at full operating temp. I can't get this car to burn oil! It has never used much oil at all. I can run it at the strip pass after pass, and it'll be at the same level before I started making passes. I also made a 750-mile trip a little over a month ago, and it might have used 1/8 qt. max. If you burned 2 qts. in 2 weeks, then I'd definitely request the dealership do an oil consumption test.

Luckily, my car hasn't starting doing it. "Knock" on wood.
