How to Prime LS1 Oil Pump? Guys,
A newbie question from an analog guy trying to get by in a digital world.
By the time I actually fire my LS1 it will have been over a year since the engine was last run (came from 2000 Trans Am with about 3,500 miles on it). If this were an "old fashioned" small block Chevy I would certainly prime the oil pump before firing. Is this necessary, if so, how is it done?

Well, the oil pump sits on the crank snout so the only way you are gonna prime it is by turning the crank, which kinda defeats the purpose of the priming to a certain extent. I've had a motor apart for a long time before and have replaced the pump, and I just started her right up. Within a second the oil pressure rose and all was well.
Re: How to Prime LS1 Oil Pump? Take off plug wires, pull the fuse for the fuel pump, turn key for 3-4 seconds about 3-4 times. This will circulate oil and you won't get any cylinder wash from fuel going in.
