Default small scratches on 2 journal bearings

Ok as the subject says with the first attempt at putting in the cam and reading one of the install guides I used motor oil to greased the cam with motor oil. Well in taking it back out to do it right with assembly lube I notice I have 2 small scratches across 2 of my journal bearings. Now my question is can I just put it back in and let the small scratches "smooth" themselves out or will this ruin the bearings? The scratches look like what would happen if you rubbed a sharp needle across them so you see it on the surface but can't feel it with your skin or finger nail.

What should I do? Have shop polish them out or put it back in?

Why can't you use motor oil to lube the cam? I thought that it was fine to do it that way. I have seen it done on many sites with how-to's on it.

Scared bearings are pretty common. I wouldn't worry to much about it until your motor starts getting some serious mileage.

FYI, I have used Moly Lube for every cam I ever installed and never had a problem.

I know GM sells an E.O.S. Lube Oil for cam, crank, bearing, and piston installs (in new engines). This may be better suited for what you are doing than using conventional motor oil.

Interesting. I'm in the process of having a cam put in, and I've also got scored cam bearings. The front 3. Car is a 2001 with just over 10k miles! In addition, had 3 scored lifters and 3 scored cam lobes.

I use gear oil on cam, except the lobes-molly lube, crank and all other parts except pistons & rings-motor oil. And of course motor oil to prime the pump. I have done this for over 25 years and never had a problem. IMHO I don't like ANY Scratches or scoring. I see that and they get replaced.
