My B1 is going in, in two more weeks. I was reading a post in the tuning section that got me concerned about issues with the TC unlocking due to misfires. I did have MTI tune the PCM already, and they said that removing PO300 should take care of that. But now I’ve read that for at least one person PO300 removal did nothing. So I was just wondering if those of you with stock tuning (or MTI tuning) are seeing any issues with the TC unlocking with a B1 due to misfires. I know the B1 is a pretty reasonable cam and doesn’t have a lot of issues, but I just wanted to know if I was going to be facing any problems in this area. Thanks <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I have B1, and Vig 2800, with MTI custom programming (done in June 2001) with no unlocking issues. My car is a 2001.
I do have idle issues though.

Wow. This is some directly conflicting data! Now I’m really <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
2K1, what type of idling issues? They set my idle to 850 drive and 950 park. My tuning was done with LS1 edit (by MTI) in December of ’01 (car has been in storage, cam going in just now).

You can't just turn off the P0300 code and expect it to stop the misfires from unlocking the converter. You have to eliminate all misfires the pcm reads...PERIOD. Easiest way to do this is to switch off the misfire codes. Best way to do it is to increase the misfire index before it will unlock the converter. LS1 Edit can't do this...YET!

Bad News: Warm starts --> car will die 50% of the time in park . If I have one foot on the brake and give it a little gas I can shift it to Reverse and if I take foot off gas, it will die 75% of the time. Jeff at MTI stalled it 3 times last week just driving it from the MTI's parking lot to the dyno.
Other problems are surging and bucking. Approaching a stoplight after exiting the freeway, my rpms will jump to 1200 then back down to 300 up to 1150 down to 350 etc, eventually it will hit the desired idle speed of 850 in drive.
I do have the TB blade drilled a couple sizes over stock according to Jeff. We will be waiting on LS1 edit for the 2001s and try to fix my problems then.
I don't know what codes they disabled, but I have no converter problems.

What does Jeff think is wrong? I know for a fact (as I’m sure you do also) that most B1 cars don’t have that problem. I know of T1 cars with stock tuning that have less issues then what you’ve stated.
What does he plan to try (tuning wise) to solve the issues?

I have B1, Yank TC, and MTI programming that disabled P0300 code.
But it still has problem keeping the TC locked up.
I'm going to ask Jayson to try changing the misfire detection temp as discussed in the Computer Diag section.

2K1, I hope Jeff gets it all worked out for you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> MTI is a stand up company that I'm sure will take care of you. Good luck <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Does anyone else have any 'vert lock up issues to add? Thanks.

Mine won't lock when I'm cruising at 50mph.
Between 35 and 45 is fine, but for some reason it just won't lock at 50mph. I have to get it to lock at 45, then accelerate ever so slightly to 50 to keep it locked.
If I accelerate hard to 50 and let off, it won't lock at all.
I know I don't have the b1 but it's close enough.

You really have an R1. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> I had MTI's tuning in my '98 T/A with the R1 cam (232/237, .560"/.560", 114 LSA), and I never had any unlocking issues. The smallest converter I ran with their tuning was a Yank 4000, and the largest was a Vig 4000 that was flashing over 5,000 RPM! All of them stayed locked for me with MTI's tuning. I had lock/unlock problems w/ stock tuning at the Vig 2800. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
