Was wondering if it was worth buying some ZO6 heads and bolt them on or take mine off and be down for awile waiting for them to be ported.

Does anyone now how much a stock set of LS6 heads flow. Because the cost of the heads would be cheaper then me buy some used ones then paying for valves & springs then pay for the porting.
just trying to get my car to run 11.0 on the motor and keep it a daily driver .

LS6 heads flow very well, but they don't flow anything like a good Stage 1 port job, let alone a stage 2. From what i've heard, it's not worth just going with LS6 heads.

For the sake of arguement, what would be the BEST flowing heads (Z06, 6.0 truck, LS1, all w/work) you could run on a 98 LS1? Then the 2nd part of the question is...Would these heads be worth the $$$ over stock ported LS1 heads?

I beg to differ. LS6 heads flow really well. I am pushing almost 440 RWHP through a 12 bolt with 4.10 gears with ported LS6 heads.
I don't think I could have made those numbers with any LS1 ported head.
Just my .02

LS6 Heads w/mild porting. Mostly bowl porting and some runner porting especially on the exaust side. You can run good with conservative heads...atleast I have been able to.
I'm getting ready to get some flow numbers on stock LS1/6.0L intake/exaust ports. I'll let you know soon.

LS6 intake

.400"=243
.450"=257
.500"268

These results were given to me by another member, but I still need to know the port volume(in cc's) for the LS6 head, and a stage one head.

Some of you guys seem to be missing the point though... I believe 11SECSS is wondering about gains on a untouched LS6 casting vs. a [b]ported[/] LS1 casting.
I think everyone agrees the ported LS1 casting is the hands down winner here.
11SECSS, as far as the downtime and waiting for your heads to be ported, it really wouldn't be an issue. You can order a set of ported heads from pretty much any vendor, and pay a core charge up front. When you get the ported heads, you swap them out and send your stock ones back and the core charge is refunded to you...

Best flowing heads to worst:
1. LS6 ported (new valves etc.) 10.5:1 compression
2. 6.0 Ported heads (new valves etc.) 9.5:1 compression?
3. LS1 ported heads (new valves etc.) 10.1:1 compression
4. LS6 heads stock
5. 6.0 liter truck heads stock
6. LS1 heads stock
Does this sound right guys? Am I missing something? Is the compression ratio right?

Coser, you make a good point. People need to consider what compression ratio they are shooting for.
Good NA car or a power adder car should be considered. I went with the truck heads since I want a lower compression ratio starting point as I am a Turbocharged car.
A wild azz NA car might want the LS6 heads with milling included to increase the CR even further.
Clearly if I had to choose between LS1 ported heads and LS6 stock heads I would go with LS1 route.

Thanks for all that replied . The main reason is I can get a brand new set of LS6 heads ready to bolt on for $1150 non ported.Or buy a used set of LS1 then buy valves and springs then pay to have local shop port them about $1150.Trying to keep my old heads just incase I need them for some odd reason....Now I no the answer to my ?
