a guy that lives here close to me has a set of 5.3 heads, that came from a vehicle that had water damage..are they worth 300, and how do i make sure they are 5.3 heads...i plan on building them as far as i can...any info would sure be helpful...

the heads will have a casting number on top 862, and underneath they will probably say 4.8.
I wouldnt pay 300bucks for a stock casting. i would get something cnc machined with all the goodies, springs, retainers, all that

 

Not worth the money. You can buy those heads for $150 or less all day long on eBay. Unported 5.3 heads won't flow any better than what you have now, so the expense in bolting them to your car just to bump your compression up isn't worth it.
