If you look in the Feb, issue of High Performance Pontiac in the story about the SLP 382 engine, the cam they use is a 234/228 .576/.571 114lsa. This magazine came out probably 5 months ago so this is not a new idea.

Les

As a matter of fact, I made mention of it in this December 30th post.

Is is it possible to compare total areas under the curve?

It look to me like the 4 hp greater peak is evident, but the bias is towards greater area also.

Try tuning and rereport (reduce variables before adding more).

Awesome!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Les, if I came across meaning this new cam was a "new idea", I apologize. Reverse split pattern cams have been around for a long time and I know of at least one engine builder using them in Stock Eliminators. Circle track cars use these type of cams as well. The whole point was to see how the LS1 responded to more intake duration without touching the exhaust lobe, as I had a very good baseline with my 224/224 cam.

Good luck my friend <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Coser_2001: I guess if you feel like using some Calculus, you could figure out the area under the curve. LOL Time permitting, we will try and get the car back on the dyno to let Geoff squeeze a few more hp/tq out of it, as it was running a little rich last time.

Abdulla: I'm waiting to install a new clutch, get my 28" Hoosiers mounted, and 4.56s installed before heading back to the track. This should be done real soon.

When you actually get an LS1, this will pertain to you.

After seeing these results, I'm thinking about changing my future cam specs a bit....I was going to get a TR 224/224 114, but since I have Grotts and a dual 3" inch exhaust I'm thinking I could easily benefit from a 227/224....even without heads....

How far can one increase the split in the duration?? Is a 230/224 reverse split feasible??? Or am I just pushing it? <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

How would this affect emissions/driveability as I increase the split??

You know what this reverse split does?

It allows you to have more overlap without reducing dynamic compression since you dont affect exhaust opening.

On exhaust closing, intake valve is further open allowing more intake charge to get pulled in.

Looks like we gained some power on top without losing any bottom. I bet that power on top was gained when exhaust system REALLY starts working for you.

Some of these cars will actually benefit from a properly designed 1 5/8" LT.

I too would like to see the 230/224 reverse split.

Jason99TA

Sure as hell can't remember how to do it by hand <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Do you know if the Dynojet software can spit out the calculation?

I'll ask around in the mean time.

HP_GURU: We will see how a 230/224 reverse split works pretty soon. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Coser_2001: I don't think the dynojet software can calculate. Check around if you like.

Jason, you should do it before the gp ends, that way I'll know what to order <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Can you do the 230/226 or 230/224 comparision with the XE-R grind? That would be KILLER <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
thanks,
Chris

Chris, we'll see about using the XE-R lobes. More than likely, we will just keep using the same family of lobes as the Thunder cams are using. They are just as aggressive as the XE-Rs, but with just a little less lift.

I'd love to see a 230/224 split as well.

As far as the homo trying to clown me he can kiss my *** and and kiss everyone elses *** on this thread for taking away from the technical content and trying to ruin it.

Jason, good looking out buddy <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I will take this to email now.
