Default Getting new rings. Any problems?

I am getting the rings replaced under warranty for oil consumption and was wondering if anyone has had any problems after the engine rebuild?

What kind of experiences have you had with those Lakewood bars? I havent heard of a whole lot of people using them but I thought they would be a good idea.

The lift bars are really not good on the street. Makes the ride very stiff and almost uncomfortable when the bars are preloaded. They can be just like regular LCA's if the bars are removed that preload it.

How much oil was your car burning to get your rings replaced?

I am burning now about 2 qts / 2500 miles. According to the TSB thats not enough, I was wondering what your experiences were?

I would never let the dealer rip into my motor. My axle was bad enough. I'd have to be burning some serious oil. The oil burning seems to be from the PCV system. Have you tried doing anything with that?

I burned 1 quart in 500 miles. I am a little weary of them ripping into the motor. But I figure that if anything goes wrong when I get it back I can blame it on them.

How did you drive you car during those 500 miles and like I said above, did you do anything with the PCV system?

I had the Steve Hovis mod and that resulted in nothing. There was no oil trapped in the filters or the container. I drove the car not like I normally would. I drove it a little harder. Driving normal I would burn about 1 to 1 1/2 quarts every 900 to 1000 miles.

I've done 2 of the "new" ring fixes on LS1/LS6's. Those were the only 2 I ever had oil consumption with. I know of 2 more, one is a '01 Z06 and the other is a 98 Z28.

Both of the engines I reringed haven't had any oil consumption issues since the fix. But of coarse I take my time on that kind of engine work, even if it costs me some $ in labor. (didn't pay all that much anyways) I'd rather do it right once than have to do that much work twice. I don't think that all technicians think like me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
