Default .075 Preload w/Stock Lifters ok?

Looks like I'm at .070-.075 Preload with my Stock Lifters right now. Anyone think that's a problem? Will shift about 6500. It was either that or .020 and since the alum heads expand, I didn't want the expansion to leave me down at .010-.014 after reaching engine temp.

I'd be around .060-.065 when warmed up.. No oil in the crate engine yet. Guess it may break in a tiny bit more after things seat. Checked with dial indicator. Was nice to use one of those this time.

I could get some special 7.415"s if I really needed to. Would be about .040 that way. Slightly ****, but wanted to get some opinions.

Hmm.. The above was assuming Stock Factory Preload was about .060 .. But the more I think about it, I think stock preload may be .075 Then everything else would make sense.

Anything under .080 should be fine. I consider .040-.050 to be optimum but you are fine at .065

Cool, thx. Guess I'm looking at .075 cold, .065 hot.

Stupid question, how do you measure preload? Thanks.

Comp sells a nice Dial Indicator and base. The base is magnetic which kinda sucks for us. But there is a convenient hole that you can thread a valley cover bolt thru to hold it down.

You align the dial indicator with the pushrod at the rocker base. 2 ways to measure. Get to zero lash, then set indicator to Zero, then TQ to 22 and measure the change in preload. Or what we found to be easier, TQ to 22, line up the dial indicator, zero out dial then release the bolt and measure change, noting zero lash.

Adjustable pushrod length checkers are a joke. Shim measurements are a PITA too.
