Default LS1 Hot Cam

For budgetary reasons, it looks like the Hot Cam is the one for me. I have a 2000 Z28 with SLP LT headers with cats, Stock Heads, Borla cat back, K&N FIPK, and a slp 85mmMAF. I've heard that this cam is "designed" to run with stock configurations. Is that true?? I would also like to pass an emissions "snif test". Will it pass?? How does this cam compromise everyday drivability?? Any input will be appreciated... thanks.

As far as I know the Hot cam will work good with stock components and it shouldnt have any problem with the sniffer test (I just ordered my MTI C2 and am a bit concerened about that issue). The hot cam really isnt to "hot" so to speak but it is a good performer.

Just out of curiosity what gains can be expected with the hot cam on a stock engine?

The way i see emission testing of Hot cam, it will definitely fail idle testing for excess Hydrocarbons, but that doesnt mean it will fail dyno analysis testing, under driving load i believe it would be harder to detect its presence.
I would like somebody who has tested this theory to speak up. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I did the IM240 emissions testing here in Illinois. . .dyno test. . .

Hotcam in stock engine, stock manifolds w/ stock cats. . .EGR and AIR not hooked up. . . resulted in a "Fast Pass" with flying colors.

Friend of mine has hotcam w/ Macs & their hi-flow cats, LS6 intake, no EGR or AIR hooked up, and also did a "Fast Pass" on the IM240.

My numbers. . . M6z28 hotcam (in at 109*), everything else on engine stock, no rear O2's, LS6 Maf, no egr, no air. (btw, I'll put all the test results in bold)

IM240 Standards 31

HC - composite fast pass - 0.124

Mine - .043

pass

CO - Composite Fast Pass - .693

mine - .077

pass

CO2 - n/a

mine - 1.099

n/a

NOx - N/A

Mine .010

n/a

FINALLY, "OBD RESULT*" ADVISORY FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dyno Settings: 12.4 3500

*next car starts here
These are the results of the Hotcammed (in at 111*) A4, Macs + mac cats + LS6 intake, no EGR, no Air.

IM240 Standards 32

HC – Composite Fast Pass – 0.126

Mine – 0.125

Pass

CO – Composite Fast Pass – 0.773

Mine – 0.754

Pass

CO2 – N/A

Mine – 1.316

N/A

Nox – N/A

Mine N/A

N/A

Dyno Settings: 12.8 4000

OBD Result* Advisory Pass

Couple things to note. . . the "Standard" changed in the 1 1/2 months that passed since we both tested.

I don't know what the "Dyno settings" means.

Finally, a fast pass is how a BRAND NEW CAR would pass if they were to put it on the dyno. . . it's the fastest you can possibly pass the emissions test, ~30 seconds.

You can spend up to 2 or 3 minutes, and they drive it to a higher MPH, and thus your emissions *MAY* go down slightly, or maybe they increase their numbers that you can pass with.

OBD Result. . . this is in regards to finding any MIL's (trouble codes) (SES lights, etc) in the computer.

The second car had LS1 edit in place and removed all/any codes, and they were NOT detected by the emissions place.

This is significant becuz it shows (IMO) that we can have no cats, no rear O2's, etc. etc., and just delete codes or modify the computer so it doesn't run the checks.

Illinois will eventually test this way. . . no actual emissions test, they're just gonna scan the PCM to see if there's any codes.
