Default Oil Got Tested

I had my oil analysed and what they found was high levels of copper. What they said 60-70parts per million(not sure of the units, just the #'s) was normal on a gasoline engine. Mine had over 100ppm. Ok now what does that mean? high levels of copper in the oil, what is made out of copper that the oil passes through?

I don't have the sheet with me it's in the mail as we speak, but I was too egar and phoned them to find my results. The level of copper is what concerned them.

Any help would be great

Gary

This seems to be a common occurrence with the LS1's. There was a thread a while back discussing the high Cu count.

I don't have my sheet handy, but my first reading (~7600 miles and internally stock) was also around 100ppm. Blackstone Labs suggested that it could be the oil, but I contacted Redline and they told me they do not use Copper as an additive. Haven't really pursued it since I was planning on doing another analysis within the next few months. I'm also wondering what the contributor could be.

Copper is used in bearings. It usually means excessive bearing wear since its not the outer layer. The only way to tell would be to pull the pan and look. It may be normal.

I dont mean to scare you but the only part made with copper i can think of is BEARINGS. I would cut open your oil filter and examine filter media for potential problems.Especially before removing oil pan or anything!
