LS6 crate motor exchange to 99 SS
I'm about to go through the motor.
I can get a crate LS6 for $4800 - sweet deal. Issues I see is, the disclaimer stays ONLY smog leagal for Z06 vette. I also have an ERG, and it sounds like I will need to keep this. So, I guess I could modify the intake.
Question: will the LS6 run properly with EGR with PCM re-cal?
Will CA SMOG pass?
229k on the stock motor is a lot.
The LS6 motor will certainly pass CA emissions. Emissions legal for Z06 Vette only means that it was only certified for that car - not that it will not pass in another car.
I would have put an LS6 crate in my car when I genaded my LS1 a few years back but GM would not warranty it in a Camaro (GM crate motors have a 3-year/50k mile warranty) and my extended warranty company would not pay for it if it was not warrantied. It turns out it was good I had a warrantied LS1 because a cam lobe & lifter went bad 10k miles later and wrecked the motor with steel pieces.

I had the car on blocks for about a year taking my time on the suspension - came out nice. I changed the water pump and timing chain while I was at it. That's it
I called CA BOA Smog guys. They told me I could put the Corvette engine in my SS, and make an appointment with the refree. They would put a sticker under the hood once it passed.
I talked to a dyno guy who said he could blank the ECM code too. But I'm thinking - just run the EGR with the SLP intake and get the setup totaly dyno tuned. I would not need to deal with CA smog this way.
Good input, on checking with the sponsor of this page.

Ya id check with a sponsor, and just forget about that crappy EGR crap.
