Can I put an LS7 crank in my LS1?
I am in the process of selecting the parts for my 383 build and I thought I had all the research done. Today I was talking with my local machine shop who will be doing all the machining, and the guy told me that he has had to turn just about every eagle crank down to get it right. I was planning using an eagle 4” crank for my build, but this is the 2nd flag that has been raised by 2 different people warning me about Eagle’s cranks. Also the fact that it is made in China with a lesser quality steel concerns me as well. So today I was looking on the SDPC website and noticed they have the LS7 crank for a little more than what the eagle costs (and way less than Callies or Lunati). Since the LS7 has a 4” stroke, can I use that crank for my build?

as for rotating on the inside of the block.. i dont know. but if one 4 inch crank turns in there it would be reasonable to think that another 4 inch crank would turn in there also.

Yes you can. Thats what I'm doing. Change the wheel/have the snout shortened. Some say balancing is an issue but before I bought my crank I called a shop that I was refered to that balances alot of LSx motors and they said no problem and they dont have to add as much mallory metal as most people think.
I got a good deal on my crank thats why I did it. If your going to pay full price for an LS7 crank ($700-800) just buy an Eagle so you dont have the hassle.

Agreed Deputy! For the average DIY'er, this project is not practical, as Chad stated.
