Default Need spring avice on my upcoming setup...(long)

First off i know your going to think i'm crazy. So let me have it if you wish I'm going with a funny setup you could say. There is a head porter in my town who is known to be Shoot hot. Anything from ford, chevy, import... His DSM lazer runs 10's in the 1/4 so i trust him. Ok on to the question...
I'm running a Hotcam. And dont want to change it right away i like it and want to see what it can do. The heads are at the port shop now he is backed up for a couple weeks so i have no hurry. Manley Valves 2.02, 1.55 are on order. (back order) Got them for $160 so i'm doing good so far. Already have Chromolly pushrods. So what Springs? Should i keep the LS6 springs? Why change? Will it be more noisy? Also Price makes a big diffrence to me. Do you think im waising my time and will never get close to 400 RWHP with the hotcam and heads? Be realistic please. I would like to run 11's n/a with the hotcam. And be able to do it every time i go. So i'd need to hit about a 11.8 Actually i run the 1000' because in arkansas they are too cheap to build the track long enuf. Right now on nitto's with a 2.0 60 (before 12 bolt) I run a 10.3@104MPH (about 12.3-12.5 in the 1/4) Now i have a 12 bolt with 4.30 (use to run 4.10) and will be adding slicks to the combo. Thanks for you time and Info... Tim 98z

LS6 springs should be fine to stay with if your staying with cam, as for running 11's, if heads pick you up 40 hp(and they should) you should be in business.Slicks and 4.30 gears and that should run 11's all day long.

Yea i was just thinking a good set of heads should get around 40hp. But thats usually with more lift than the 5.25 of the hotcam. Hopefully ill get 35 at minimum. Guess time will tell. Main thing was the springs. I guess i really cant go to a stronger spring can I? arent you suppose to have the proper spring pressure for your cam? I'm still kind of new to geting this deep in to a engine. Tim 98z

Lift of cam has less to do with hitting your power goal than duration and LSA, youll be fine making decent power with cam and head combo. Increasing spring pressure for the hell of it is not a good idea, it adds friction and wears parts, also can deflate hydraulics in lifter. Stick with what you have unless your trying to spin motor higher than it should, to extend power band, then you would want more spring. Like if you were overgeared in rear.

So with the hotcam now i start dropping HP at 6200. With heads it will move the band up right? So lets say it holds till like 6500? Can i spin it till 6500 regularly with ls6 springs? Thanks for the help by the way. Tim 98z

while your there, get the 918 spring installed so if you ever decide to upgrade the cam and go a little on the wild side you wont have problems or issues with the replacement of the ls6 spring.
its not needed with the hotcm, but you need to look at the "big picture"...where are you gonna be in lets say one year....

ive worked on some n/a hotcam cars running mid 11's..not hard to do once you get the car sorted out.
