I have a chance to purchase a set of LS6 heads that have 12,000 miles on them for $100 and I would have to swap for my LS1 heads. I would like to know what is different about the heads and if the trade is worth it? How much lift will the Z06 heads take?

No, I would say to forget it. Just give me the persons info that wants to swap with you. I'll talk to them for ya. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
The LS6 heads have slightly smaller combustion chambers which will up the compression a bit. They also have better intake and exhaust ports. The springs on the LS6 heads were upgraded but I don't know what type of lift is safe on them.
For $100 dollars you CANNOT go wrong. Just be careful and make sure they are really LS6 heads because that is a hell of a deal.
John
PS- what year are they '01 or '02 and do they have the stock valves in them?

I would swap in a heartbeat, the LS6 heads are going for a premium. I have seen a few used cores going for $900, and the LS1 cores go for as little as $200. Just make sure they are LS6 heads and not the 6.0L heads, they both have D shaped exhaust ports.

I have heard that the ports on the 6.0L heads are very similar to the LS6 heads. Is this true??
If so, what are the other differences between the 6.0L heads and LS6 heads aside from the chamber volume??
Thanks for any input.

It is fairly easy to distinguish a LS1 heads from a LS6 head. The exhaust ports, intake runners, and combustion chamber are all different. The LS6 heads have a "D" shaped exhaust port.
Yes, the 6.0l heads are nearly identical to the LS6 heads (aside from chamber volume). Some well known porters do say the intake port is slightly different on the 6.0l head compared to the LS6.
The LS6 heads are around 64cc and the 5.3l heads are around 60cc in stock form.
