Default NEED HELP!!! What is the problem?

Just had a 6 hour drive a bit ago, forgot to check the oil...although I checked it two weeks ago and it was fine. Well the car turned off on me and then I heard knocking.... I checked the oil and it needed at least 3 qts. I put ome oil in and it still turns off. It won't idle. It seems like the car is burning up more oil with the T1 cam. The car stays on if you idle it around 1200....and sounds like there is some knocking..what could this be? Could it be a broken spring? I have the 918 the kit that came with the cam. Worried as hell...anyone? Worried very..

Sounds like you are down a cylinder. If the problem just suddenly showed up, take a look at your valvetrain. Springs like oil.....

Also could be:
Spun Bearing
Ring is Toast

You think it might be a cylinder? bearings? It sounds like a lifter or spring. It turns on now, but I have to keep the rpm at 1200 for a bi, ten I letit go and it stays at 1000, could there be someting wrong with the cam?

I spun some bearings a few years ago.

Oil pressure fluctuated up/down visibly on the gauge.

Car would not stay running after warmed up unless I two footed it.

Pronounc mid-freq knocking that was not there at at idle, but obvious at 1500 rpms and higher.

Big thick streaks of oil in pan. Oil plug/magnut was like a porcupine.

ProStockJohn, I think thats what it sounds like bearing....I just recently had the cam installed like 3 weeks ago...I am going to take the covers off and check it out. I called MTI and told them I was going to bring it in. I just really hope nothing serious is damaged...what can cause the engine to be burning oil so much?

There are so many things that can go wrong with an engine when there is no oil in it.

First of all, I would stop starting your car. If it is your valvetrain, then you are probably beating the hell out of a valve or worse.

A clean break to your valvetrain makes a hell of a clatter. High pitched tapping like tapping a pen on the table. The engine will run, but barely.... Don't stress it, I'm on my 2nd valvetrain. Easy come, easy go.

A spun bearing usually makes a deep knocking sound. Sounds like your knuckles on the table. If it is making this sound, go have a drink. You may have damaged your cam, your crank, your block, basically anything expensive you can think of.

Demolished Ring. In my experience, there really wasn't any sound, just a hot as hell engine and a one-way ticket to the junkyard (too bad, I liked the opel )

Again, pull the covers off. It only takes 20 minutes, and a clean break to your valvetrain should be easy to spot.

Good luck
