Default Question regarding head selections...

I have seen many of you post that you would not purchase a set of LS6 heads because of the cost of these heads.

Not as a flame but simply as a question, how much are you paying for a set of LS1s?

My question is based upon the fact that I can buy a set of CNC ported LS6s for $900-$1000 per head from GM. Granted, I know that they are bare, and that I have to supply valves, springs, and retainers. Which I would anyway be it LS1 or LS6

To the best of my understandin flow for a CNC ported LS6 (in this case the GM ones) are about the same as a set of stageII LS1s, but with greater potential down the road.

As I said, this is simply curiosity on my part. I am not criticizing anyone for their choice of head, just trying to understand what is avaliable and the price deltas.

Also, has anyone ever flowed the GM LS6 CNC head to find out what its numbers were? I saw the post that someone had from GM High perf or some other magazine and they listed CNC LS6, but not whose CNC heads GM or someone elses...

I have a set of never-installed bare LS1's that I paid $275 for off Ebay. Another set that I P&P'd myself and will soon install on my Corvette, Also Ebay, cost me $350(springs, retainers, valves inc). These are for BOTH--not per-head!The best I've seen for new LS6 heads is ~$6xx+ each.
Is there more potential with them? Absolutely.
With the right porting, they can substantially out-flow equivalent LS1's.
They are better heads, no question--
Are they worth four times the price?
That's your call...as you can see, I have LS1's sitting here.
For the guy with unlimited funds, the LS6 is a no-brainer. For everyone else... <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Thnaks for the reply. That was kind of what I was wondering. How much a set of LS1 heads were going for.

I wouldn't say that I have unlimited funds. But since I already have an LS6, if I do any more heads it will be another set of LS6 heads. I was simply curious about the price delta.

Ported S2 heads will KILL stock LS6 heads hands down.
Unless you are going up in cubes with cam lifts in the .600 range I wouldnt go with LS6 heads.
Cheers,
Chris
