Default Porting Stock LS1 heads

I'm going to port my heads on my 2001 SS camaro, and I had a few questions. How much should I port them? Would there be any computer programming needed?
Thanks,
ChiTown

I dont really understand your question.

So, you are going to get out the die grinder and start hogging out these heads yourself?

I think that "computer programming" is the least of you worries at this point...

You should just try to blend all the transitions and smooth the port, especally in the bowl area around the valve guide, and get some aftermerket valves, you can get a good porting kit from summit or jegs it made by standard abrasives. and its only like 50 bucks.

Sorry if I wasn't too specific. I'm not doing the porting myself. I found a shop that is going to do the porting, I was just wondering how large should I get the intake/exhuast ports and if I would set any SES codes due to the porting. Would I have to adjust my air/fuel because more air would be flowing through the engine? Thanks again!

The intake and exhuast ports aren't honed out all that much. They really just smooth the transitions and smooth the rest up.

Go to LS1.com and do a search for the user Jantzer98z. I think that is right. He has ported several sets of heads himself and has excellent information in his post and lots of pics.

Do your research and be conservative.

Will I need custom tuning? Will I set an SES? Air/Fuel adjustment needed?

I am doing stage 2 port work on my 2001, and i dont plan on doing any programming except raise rev limiter. If your maf is stock, you should be ok.I cant see SES light being triggered by better volumetric efficiency. If you can wait about 3 weeks i will be able to give you first hand info on these questions. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
