Question about Comp 'R' Lifters

Question about Comp 'R' Lifters I purchased the Comp 'R' Lifters last year when I did me H/C install. I remember them going in with some work (a little bit of force). Yesterday I just took them out and encountered the same kind of resistance. Is this normal ? My experience has been that lifters usuaully fall into place without hardly any force. This is not the case with the Comp 'R's . So my question is this, did any of you guys that have these lifters experience the same thing ? If so how do you correct it ? BTW my stock lifters, which I dont have anymore <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> , fit perfectly. Thanks in advance.

Re: Question about Comp 'R' Lifters Mine did not require any force at all. Slid in very nicely. Not sure what the problem could be. I actually had a friend of mine who does VERY accurate measuring for the fabrication of injection molds measure the lifters. They were dead on. Course except for the plunger depth. The diameter and external shape was the same. I've had mine in since 1999 when I did the heads and cam.
I believe I still have the stock lifters. I'll see if I can find a R lifter to measure it again.
By the way I know I've heard of block distortion cuasing lifter issues from GM. But I've never heard it on the board before. I really doubt that's the issue here.

virtually exactly on the same axis as the lifter bore you can experience resistence. Residue oil
can also cause resistance since the fit is so close.

Re: Question about Comp 'R' Lifters I used "Crane" lifters during my H/C swap and noticed the same thing. The Cranes took a little effort to get them in while the "Stock" ones did not. I have noticeable valvetrain noise and have wondered if the lifters are contributing to it.

They should be have to be turned just so to go in smoothly, but they should go in with ZERO "force".
Once they were in did they move up and down smoothly? Were you able to turn the cam over with little effort when the push rods had not been installed yet on top of the lifters?

Re: Question about Comp 'R' Lifters The set I installed in my last engine had one lifter (Type R) that was not completely round. You could see the distortion of the lifter body. It wouldn't even begin to go in. I had to have another one overnighted.

Re: Question about Comp 'R' Lifters They did infact move up and down, but I am sure they were rubbing. I can see a little scuffing on the lifters. They definitely dont go in with ZERO force. Thats what worries me. I guess Morgan Motorsports will check them out and replace if need be. From what I gather, there is something not right with those lifters. Thanks for the info.

Good luck getting a set of Comp lifters right now. Ive been trying my hardest to get some but apparently they are on national back order for a few weeks. Guess Im getting the Cranes.
