No, Crane has been on this board several times stating that the springs are designed to provide a degree of flexibility in their installation and that shimming is needed to obtain the seat pressure needed for any particular installation.

Okay just heard back from the machine shop. At an installed height of 1.78 i had between 115-120 of spring pressure. This was the height i had it at. Is a difference in spring pressure okay?

Some minor deviation is OK, you will get that due to tolerances on the heights and the springs. The actual value (115-120) is your big issue.

What about turning the engine over with the timing chain removed for the cam install?

Ringram what are you getting at with that. Not understanding you here. Also im having him set the springs to about 135. Is that enough pressure?

Valve springs return the valve to the closed position when not being opened by the cam. If the springs where the issue your valves would lag in the open position and static compression wouldnt occur during start up. The culprit is do to cam timing.
Cam sprocket, timing chain or crank sprocket. Check the alignment. You should have degreed the cam. As well as check TDC of the piston to valve clearance.
Get out of this valve spring idea. Also you can check valve seal with a air cukc and custom made sprak plug to air chuck to pressurize the head.

when it comes to the valve spring idea, it doesnt have to do with start up. It has to do with revving so high that there isnt enough seat pressure on the springs to close the valve fast enough, effectively "floating" the valves open when he was hitting the rev limiter and the piston it the valve before the weak spring pressure could close it.
