Default Need advice on purchasing an LS1 with 100K+ miles

I have the money to either buy a modded lower mile LS1 or purchase a 100+K mile car and rebuild the motor and tranny If i rebuilt the motor and tranny in a 100 thousand mile car would it be reliable enough to use as my daily driver? I've never really had a car with more than 80K miles, but if I bought one with more miles, I could go with the parts and internals that I want I'm just worried about it not being as reliable as a car that has 30K miles any advice? thanks guys

Brandon

If the turth be know. I am worried of buying a modded LS1 and have the rear end split. If I go the 100K mile car, not only could I rebuild the motor, trans, and install a 9" rear end. Just not sure if that would be the more reliable route

There are a lot of LS1's with over 100,000 on the clock and still running strong with no rebuild.

Sounds familar, i don't "plan" on rebuilding the trans, though i may have to. i've got 159,000 on mine and i still run it hard. it all depends on the way the car has been treated and kept up. The suspension squeeks but just remember everything can be replaced for the right amount of $.

Do you know the history of the 100k motor? Was the preventative maintenance done on a regular basis? This motor is a 6 bolt main. You have to look in the Fuel or Alcohol pits at a NHRA track to find those. The LSx is the Timex of engines. You have to screw up bad to hurt it. A lack of proper maintenance will hurt any motor. I'd do a compression test. If 1 or more cylinders fail do the wet test and compare wet to dry.
