Default Questions about reinstalling heads.

Ok guys.. This may be some stupid questions but just want to make sure I put everything back together correctly. I finally got my heads back and I want to make sure I reinstall everything back correctly. Now here are my question:
1) How do I tell which is my right cylinder head from my left Cylinder head? I believe the coolant sensor is on the left side of the engine which would tell me which head is the left since this sensor only fits in one of the heads. Is this correct?

2) In my invoice from Thunder racing it states that 12558809 is the left head gasket and the 12558810 is the right cylinder head gasket but if I match it up correctly (front and this side up) the 12558810 would be the left cylinder head gasket and the 12558809 would be the right? Which is correct?

Sorry if these are stupid questions but I want to make sure I do this right. Helms manual doesn't tell you which is which so please let me know. BTW I have a 99 Camaro SS.

Thanks,
Chris

The cylinder heads are interchangeable between sides. The coolant temperature sensor does go on the left side (driver side) of the motor. There should be a copper plug on the other cylinder head. When this head is installed on the car, the plug is toward the back of the motor. You could take the coolant temp. sensor out and put it in the other head and place the plug in the other and it wouldn't make any difference. As long as the coolant temp sensor ends up on the left side, you are doing just fine.

As for the heads gaskets: Left side = driver side; right side = passenger side.

Jason,

Thanks for the reply, after digging through different sections of the helms manual and looking at each of the heads I figured which head should go on the right or the left. With regards to the gaskets what confused me is that the invoice I have has the part numbers for the gaskets swapped which is what has confused me. I think they must have a typo in their parts database because in order for the gaskets to go on correctly (drivers side = Left) and (passenger side = right) and for the "this side up" and "front" the gaskets are actually swapped from what is says on my invoice. Just looked on ls1.com and they have the same thing which says the 12558810 should go on the passenger side too.. Hrmm how could both my invoice and the ls1.com faq be wrong??? There is just no way you can put the 12558810 on the passenger side and 12558809 on the driver side and have everything match up. Anyone else know for sure?
