Default Taking off oil pan?

Does anyone have any tips on taking off the oil pan? I would like to take off the pan without taking out the tranny(T56). Anyone know how?

Man, this doesn't sound like it's going to be fun. I guess I might have to take out the tranny.

Well I did it. It really wasn't too bad. YOu need to take off the AC compressor and Alt to get the motor mount bolts out. After you do that you need to jack up the engine a little bit. I just used a block of wood and jacked up on the bellhousing. Then you need to take the back 2 bolts out of each side of the K-member. Then just pull down on the back of the K-member and the oil pan comes right out.

Thanks for the info. This is good to know. Why did you need to pull the oil pan?

Most of the time when I change my oil, I just use the drain plug instead of dropping the oil pan. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> LOL - just kidding, I'm sure you had a good reason, just wondering what it was.

I received a stock longblock from ARE which had to be shipped to me. I put the engine in without looking at the bottom of the oil pan and it turned out to be badly cracked. It would only leak oil when the car was running so I never noticed till I actually got the car running. I'm glad that the oil pans are cheap(thanks valvegod). I know it was stupid to put it in without looking at the oil pan so don't tell me that, I already know.
