from some testing I've seen on another local car...don't expect too much gain on a stock CID

Sounds like a plan. I think the new heads will be overkill as will a larger cam unless you bring the LSA down. You've probably got a set of "magical heads" now, why change you're so close? I wouldn't coniser ARP rod bolts a stock shortblock, but hey I'll let that one squeek by. Why don't you swap the head/cam at different times to see what each does. That would be the best thing you could do. What brand intake valves are you going with? Titanium? 2.10?

I see you're taking my advance on the rear suspension. Probably a good move. And I KNEW I could get you to take that AC out. Trailor queen now! LOL

Too bad I don't have time to do another set of heads. Maybe I won't be competitive anymore. I guess more weight reduction will have to do.

When do you plan to have everything together? Hopefully enought time for me to make some changes as well.

Hehe I know. I might not do it just for that reason.. lol. At least it will still be a mostly stock 346ci motor!

So when does your mini superstroker go in?

I asked Mike to pick something that will make power up to 7400rpm and also something that will give me a solid gain from 6000-7200rpm hp wise. He's trying to find me a set of Tit. 2.1 intake valves, and we'll probably just reuse my current exhaust valves. I'm trying to get the CR in the 12.2:1 range.

RE: weight I'm going to basically do what you did, but stop short of taking out my heater core/stock stereo system. So I'll remove the carpet, pass side airbag, crash bars, rear seat cushons, and catback to start. If things are going my way at the track I'll then do the pin on hood and trunk w/ rear lexan. All in all I can in theory take 200# off the car and still daily drive it. That would get me in the 3150# raceweight range like your car.

You still have 4.56s, 1 7/8" headers, and LS6 heads. Man you should be a lot quicker than me.

Terry, I would try the new cam, install a set of stepped headers, notch your factory pistons, mill the heads even more , and throw in some race gas. Then retune everything and 10s will be in the bag. I hope you have enough converter!!

Just for kicks I'm going to bolt the heads/cam I am going to put in my 388 motor on to the 346 to see if I can get more competitive in the "stock short block" arena. The details aren't firm yet but its going to be an aggressive LS1 headed combo (around 12" vacuum @ 950rpm, large valves, high compression). Engine simulators show a potential average 25-30rwhp gain from 6000-7500rpm. I'll probably throw a set of ARP rod bolts in the mix to help protect my new heads.

At the same time I'm going to do what I can to get more weight off the car. I'm thinking light weight carpet, bolt on hood, pass side airbag, no AC, and set the catback up so that I can easily remove it at the track (or maybe just buy a trailer, lol). So I'll be removing 150#s (getting to a 3250 raceweight) and hopefully adding 25rwhp in my power band. I'll do a bit more suspension work too (rear hals, tighter anti-sway bar).

At some point I'll be adding a 12 bolt to the car as well, probably a spool with 4.10s. I've driven a spool on the street before and it doesn't bother me.

The next couple of months are going to be a lot of fun for the west coast heads/cam club.

Terry that cam would be awesome.. You would have sick power well over 7k rpm.. You guys are starting a epidemic with this inverse pattern cams..

Maybe you need a new heads/cam package?
