I'd like to know what an equivalent "reverse split" cam would be for a 382 stroker. Any talk about that at TR????

I'm wanting a new h/c combo and maybe this would be the way to go.

I have a feeling the results will be magnified since the stock LS6 intake will be even more of a limiting factor to the larger displacement engines.

I will keep you posted...

Damn Jason, it sounds like you have those cam swaps down to a fine art. These are EXCELLENT results! I love the fact that you didn't lose any bottom-end power and still picked up HP in the top-end. I'm glad to see plenty of R&D still taking place with the LS1. For a while, all we saw were the same cams being swapped in with very little experimentation going on. It looks like Geoff is onto something good. Are the ramps just as aggressive as the XE-R's?
Get all of the new stuff installed, and get to the track!

Trevor, cam swaps are getting pretty quick now. I enjoy doing them, so it actually ends up being more fun than work.

The ramp rates on the lobes I am using are just as agressive as the XE-Rs. The only major difference is the extra lift the XE-R lobes offer.

I'm sure any of the tested cams will be available to all customers. There is no "secret society" at Thunder. I personally enjoy hanging out and helping out there because i like working on hot rods... I know that Geoff is just trying out ideas right now. If it works and there are no interference problems then it will most likely be available. Basically the goal is to find out where "the line" is. Of course there is always a risk trying these things out and thats why they are initially tested on employees cars or trusted customers cars. I'm sure everyone understands the issues of liability we all live with today...

I have personally heard Geoff on the phone with customers literally for hours discussing custom grinds and the pros and cons of going out to the edge. My project started out the same way. First just a cam swap, then H/C, now... well now just check out the sig. I promise, I'm gonna push it as far as I can and beat this thing to death and we will all learn alot... no secrets here...

gator's 99TA: I have only heard one hotcam car and the idle is pretty similar. As far as driveabilty, I would figure this cam would drive better than the hotcam. I'm saying this because the cam is pretty similar in driveability to my old B1 and people that have gone from the hotcam to the B1 posted their driveability actually improved.

Trojan T/A: As Shane said, the cam should be ready for sale very soon. I don't think there is any benfit of the extra lift of the XE-R with stock heads.

Chris ARE 360: I'm not sure what we will try next. LOL It is bound to be something pretty similar. Or, we might try something totally different.

Coach: The cam we are installing in your hot rod is pretty similar to what I'm using, but just a little bigger. Match that to a set of GTP stg 2s and I think you are going to have one bad-*** combo.

Joe: We did discuss that. We might try something like that in the future. It does seem the bigger we go, the more power we make.

Crowley: I posted my mods earlier in the thread.

Shane: LOL, I know you will beat your car to death. I know my car would agree with that.

I received my 227/224 cam last Friday. Hopefully, I'll be able to install it in a few weeks and post my dyno results. Have to get my heads milled and a valve job done first.

Is this cam available now for the general public?

Scotty,

I don't think Jason would mind me answering this. The cam is avialable just call Thunder and request it. I'm not sure that they stock it yet since its fairly new but they can get you anything you want.

Scott, the cam is available. Give Paul or David a call tomorrow. There were a few orders in for the cam today.

Great results! A really interesting comparison would be between a 224/230 and a 230/224...This would show the difference from old school to new school beliefs....I'm already sold on the low power peak

Do you think a 230/224 .525 would hurt perfomance a lot with stock heads? I don't think that I will ever get heads so would this be a good idea or not? Would you be able to use LS6 springs with a cam like that?

from what I know, you would probably only want to use this if you had stock heads.
It's great for that since the intake duration is so long, which kinda compensates for the "poor" flowing heads. Assuming you have a well flowing exhaust.
Maybe I'm wrong, if I am I'm sure someone will put me in my place.
I was considering a setup like this until I thought about it and read some more about the 'reverse split' setup and what it is good with.
Not to take anyting away from your results, they are AWESOME!!!! I'm kinda jealous

In doing the reverse split, the real handicap for these cars is the intake manifold, not the intake port. That's why we will be trying this out on my engine once its complete. The theory is the better the heads and exhaust system flow, the more of a bottleneck the intake becomes. This effect should also be exaggerated on a large cubic inch engine since it's air demand will be higher. What it comes down to is that the LS6 intake is a great piece but it has its limitations. Again, this is all theory so we will be doing more testing soon.

Thanks,
Shane
