Default 15W/50 Mobil 1

I know the book said not to run it, but would 15W/50 raise or lower pressure? Also someone stated ls1/6 passage ways were to small for 50 to flow. When talking to two tuners they said it was OK, they did. Any imput on this. The former owner of my car ran it and I don't like the pressure. <img border="0" alt="[Z06 Corvette]" title="" src="graemlins/z06.gif" />

It raises oil press(about 10+psi when hot). I know alot of people who run 15W50 and have noproblem(myself included). cold morning ya just have to let it idle alittle longer is all.

I run it. It is a good oil to help high-performance engines - have a few less fears about losing the oil film on your bearings. The added oil pressure is a nice thing to have when your engine is hot, particularly in hot weather. That it is synthetic also helps it to flow pretty well when it is cool.

I would not recommend it if you live in a cold climate and you are in the cool season.

2 camps on this debate..

Some say that most bearing wear occurs at cold startup and this oil is the worst for cold start.

Others say heavier is better for more Oil Pressure and hotter climates. My mech in FLA believes strongly in 50W.

Then again, others say our engine was designed for 30W, yadda yadda..

I think I'll switch to 40W after the SC as a compromise.

I just put in 15W-50 Mobil 1 about 2 weeks ago. My oil pressure is wonderful. Never drops below 50psi except when warm and at idle and then it stays right at 45psi.

The tolerances on a factory LS1 are more suited to the 10w30, so unless you have a redone engine where the builder has gone with looser tolerances and recommends thicker oil, stick with 10w30. You'll lose a bit of power and a bit of MPG with the thicker oil and very thick oil doesn't always equal better protection either.

My oil pressure has never gone below 45 psi, even when I use 5W30. An engine needs about 10 psi for every 1000 rpm, so your max 38 when hot is not enough for 6k. Could be in the gauge or sending unit though too.
