Default Rod bolts

Can we just pull out the bolts and install the upgraded fasteners? The instructions for the rod bolts said that the rods should be resized. If I do not change the bearings, should it be okay to just torque everything back up?

When you change rod bolts you need to resize the rods, most of the time the bore gets out of round and can cause you a big problem.

How can you resize rods that have the fractured caps? I thought when they are out of round you trashed them.

You should be OK, mine were with Katechs. Are the instructions you got actually LS1-specific, or it sounds more like they're talking about a TYPICAL rod bolt that is PRESSED into the rod rather than the cap screw type arrangement used on LS1 rods. After removing one of the PRESSED-IN type rod bolts, the rod should DEFINITELY be resized

BTW ( with the Katechs at least ) you have to remove a small spacer bushing that is inside each hole on the rod cap. You can easily tap it out (it will come out with a single tap) with a properly sized socket, dowel or whatever you may have. If you have ARP and the instructions are not specific, I'd investigate whether you are supposed to leave the bushings in or not.

hope that helps.

The instructions I saw from ARP were labeled for LS1, but I didn't think they were right. I guess I'll get the Katech bolts.

Thanks,

Jeff

My mech didn't want to do Katech rod bolts with just the caps off for the above reason.
