Default Oil In the Intake!

I'm currently in the middle of changing out my lifters (other post Collapsed Lifter Suspicion) and I have run into a dis-heartening problem.

I have oil in the intake. Not just a little oil in the intake, but a lot of oil in the intake. I have so much oil in the intake that there are oil puddles around the intake valves. When I pulled the headers off, oil came out with the header gasket! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> .

This is waaay to much oil for the PCV system. Plus I have the inline filter mod.

What can burp this much oil into the intake.

If the PCV system is plugged or not working, could positive crankcrase pressure push this much oil up into the intake???

Valve Seal??

Have I blown a ring??

For a background, the car ran fine, no discernable power loss. No problems. I did notice that I was burning a lot of oil, but didn't think it was this much! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I did notice from the sparkplugs though, that the car was running lean. Everyone of them was snow white, which worries the hell out of me.

Any suggestions. What could get this much oil up into the intake. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Yes, our PCV systems suck ***. Even with the inline filter trick, when we pulled my 382ci apart with only 2500 miles the intake was nasty with oil.

Thats Insane! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[guns]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" /> PCV

I had just as much oil in my intake as I had under my valve covers <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> I about **** my pants when I pulled off the throttle body.

If it is the PCV system, then there has got to be a better solution for this. Obviously, I can't continue running the car like this. There is oil in the friggen headers! <img border="0" alt="[bullshit]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bs.gif" />

<img border="0" alt="[guns]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" /> PCV

Time to start looking for a separator.

You can run a catchcan setup under your battery tray if you want and run a hose off your valvecover down to the catchcan.

I had my vacuum assisted, I just never had a chance to sort out the issue of the pump sucking oil out of the valve cover.

This is the only thing that makes me unhappy with my LS1. Smoking on decel after high RPMs.

I have the same problem. Forget the inline filter, forget the catchcan. I had them both and they did nothing!!!

You need the LS6 fix part# 12568002. GM has finally figured this out. In the meantime you can get #12572717 in place of the PCV valve to slow things down.

I have pictures I will soon post on my website. I am installing on Saturday.

Good Luck

It just takes forever to get the LS6 valley cover. They are on perpetual backorder... Took 2 months to get mine.

I didn't like getting oil in my intake eater and didn't like that this allowed air to bypass the throttle body.

This is how I fixed it on my car:

1) Removed the PCV hoses from the intake and throttle body. Plugged holes with set screws.

2) Rerouted all the hoses so that both valve covers were connected.

2a) connected the hose on the driver's side valve cover to the back plug on the passenger's side.
2b) put a small breather on a piece of hose and connected it to the front plug (so everything could vent naturally).

The car now comes to idles better now. It used to be that when I would rev the engine and then jump off the pedal; the engine would stumble a little (because there was still more air moving through the PCV than the engine knew about). Now it goes right down to 750 and sits there.

This summer I may use the old AIR injection system pump as a crank case pump.

gmpartsdirect.com has both the hose and the LS6 valley in stock. I received mine in about 10 days. The part number for the rediculously priced 180 degree hose is #12568010. It is $54 while the whole vally kit is $37 and change. I most likely will have to grind the block, because I have a '99 car. I don't think it will be that bad though. I just ordered an LS6 intake, while I'm at it. Should do the surgery in a couple of weeks. I will post the entire process and then rejoice....no more oil in the intake!

For 2002 the job is the easiest, no grinding in the block. The verical mod and all the inline filters did NOTHING for me. There definitely are varying degrees of this problem. I only go through about 3/4 of a quart per 2500 miles but it all goes in the intake.

If the Ls6 valley cover is the solution, why does the Ls6 engine have the same oil burning problem?????

Defiantly varying degrees of this problem. Mostly stock, the inline filter trick worked. After the H/C/Intake/Headers/stuff mods though, the inline filter trick does NOTHING.

Has anybody ever looked into using air/oil separators. For example, those that are found on compressed air systems?

Or air/oil separators used on aircraft engines?
