Default hammer cam (or similiar) what is your idle set at?

just wondering where you guys have your idle set at in park, currently i have gotten it down to 725 and idling with no surge when its WARM. when i first start it up tho i have have the throttle blade cracked slightly with my foot on the pedal til it gets warm. but damn! it sounds sweet

just wondering if i should try going lower. i started out at 850 and been playing with the TB hole and idle set screw for the past 3 days to get it like it is.

850 drive, 950 park...she idles perfect..kinda hunts for the idle when I first start her up, but no stalling what so ever, even in reverse!

800-825 in gear and park It will sometimes have some surging problems when the engine is cold if I'm creeping along, but once it's warmed up it's just fine.

950 park is cool..when I first start the car it'll jump up to 1100..then settle down to 950 after warming up.

I think you should be able to get away with 830 drive..you'll get a little more lumpty lump though ..f-it try 800!

peace

no way that is way to high IMO. it takes away from the sound of the cam big time. idealy you want it as low as possible. thats kinda the idea of why i made the post as it seems alot of guys get tuning and just get it stuck at high *** rpm's cause the tuners dont wanna take the time to make it idle right. with some tweaking and what not and playing with ls1 edit i have my idle set up like this with no AC.

in park start out at like 1400 and work down to 725 at 176 degress on the ls1 edit chart.

in drive start out at 1000 and work down to 700 at same temp.

then you gotta mess with the hole in the TB and the idle set screw both are very touchy. i have the screw almost completely down. and the hole is drilled 1/8th, yes 1/8th..... and my IAC's are at the 20 range at 190 degrees.

so with this said hopefully this will help some guys wondering bout how to set up the idle, specially if your looking for lope
if you dont have ls1 edit the you suck

The tuners are pretty quick on jacking the idle up too high. I know that my "recommended" idle was 950, and I said no way. I have the cam working perfectly at the idle above, and it still is low enough to sound great.

Jerry, did you take her for a test drive? Any stalling? Surging? Does she shake?

Just curious, what do M6ers idle at stock?

I'm getting a Hammer cam installed Friday at MTI. I am curious to see how it turns out.

yes i drove it all day yesterday and today. like i said to start it i crack the gas pedal very slightly and remove it once it starts.then once its warm i have ls1 edit having it idle at 725, very sweet, nice smooth lope, no stalling or surging at all.

in drive it idles at 700 and is just as smooth and sweet at stop signs and what not. very pleased.

i just hate the added noise of the valvetrain, glad i got a loud *** exhaust

BlackhawkSS
With your idle that low, when you come to a stop light (from like 25 to 30 or so) if you stop "FAST" does the car stall? Almost stall? Does the idle drop down below 650 or so? If not what would you attribute all of these things "NOT" happening to? When my cars idle was that low these things would happen.

i got rid of like 80% of the ticking by tightening up the the ypipe to header bolts, they were fairly loose, even got rid of more ticking by tightening them up with my extented pipe and cranked the **** out of them, sounds alot better without the ticking in the wheel wells

i suggest everyone check theres as maybe they loosen up or mine never got completely tightened.

I just got my car back on the road, Hammer cam ,stage1 heads,Mac headers and centerforce clutch. The cam hunts for idle when I first crank it but then Idles at 800 just as sweet as can be.I have a Edelbrock catback with mac orp and have 0 resonence or drone. This car sounds AWSOME! Quiet at idle but loud as hell at wot, I just want it to stop hunting on crank up. what can I do to stop this?

how long does it hunt for and how wide is the range? when mine did that i had to tighten up the throttle body hole just a little bit, very little if its only on start up. or try to adjust the idle set screw bout 1/8 turn up
