1.) If the bottom end is seized and I can't turn the crank. How can I seperate the A4 from the engine? I can't get at the bolts in the torque converter.
If I take them out together like Raughammer did, will I be able to do it then?
2.) How does that stupid power steering pump come off? I have a Haynes manual but, do I really have to take the pulley off?
Other than those two questions everything else seems to be going fine. Everything but the heads is off the engine except the alternator,PS pump and the starter. I have a replacement engine sitting on the floor of the garage waiting for a new home.

To get the power steering off, you either need a power steering puller or just wrench the bolts off very slowly. With the correct puller, it only takes a minute to take off. A local autoparts store should have something to work for that. Or just find a Snap On truck like I did.
I guess you can remove the tranny without unbolting the converter bolts on the flexplate. This will makea mess though, as tranny fluid will go everywhere. I don't know if this is even possible, as I just also undo the bolts first. Just a thought...

I've decided to pull it all out together. Everything is off and the motor is ready to come out.
As soon as I get an extra set of hands it's coming on out!
I gotta figure out how to use the engine stand. (yes, I'm a novice) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" />

If you unbolt the motor mounts from the side of the block, you can just pull the motor out with the torque converter still attached to the flexplate. You have to unbolt the mounts so that you have enough room to slide the engine pretty much straight forward enough for the converter to slip off of the input shaft.
It's a lot easier than pulling the engine and tranny as a whole assembly...
