i love the asa in my carbed 6.0 ,it pulls hard on the motor, and pulls sick on the spray, a 150 to be exact,in a 3200 pound car with 3;42 gear i ran 6.80 in 1/8 with slicks only,no other suspension mods with 3000 stall with 4l60e.the motor was all stock except cam, springs, pushrods, timing chain,intake,carb,msd,1 3/4 longtubes.the asa works, damn well, and sounds great.

I just read this whole thread and never saw the REAL reason most people don't use this cam. The price is comparable to what you would pay for a custom grind. At least the ls6 grind that is so popular is cheap. If you are going to pay a premium price, you might as well get a custom specced cam. If you just find a cheap deal on a used asa, then by all means, run it.

You have a point. I would add about another .025" to the lift and still have a no-worry valve train plus a few more HP.

its true, the asa could use more lift, but like someone said before, add 1.8 rockers and your there.i picked up my asa used for a good price and couldnt be happier. i am planning on putting dart 225 heads on my 6.0,i will probably go to with custom cam.

A friend of mine says that the ASA must be run in Speed Density because it screws with the MAF, any truth to this ?

With a 110 LSA I'm sure there is quite a bit of reversion at idle and low RPM's which does tend to mess with the MAF but careful tuning should take care of it.

Default ASA Cam

I ran this cam until I had to sell my car. It was in an auto with a yank 3600 stall and It put down 391 at the wheels on a mustang dyno. I think its a great cam, it sounded absolutely insane when I had dumped duals. I think in the last couple months I had the car I was ticketed 4 times. With all that said It was a beast to tune, I had a couple of the better tuners in the St Louis area try but I honestly never really ran right. I would have no problem putting it in a m6, but I'd really have to think long and hard about putting it in an auto again. Here's some clips I had from a while back, there's a dyno sheet in the pictures somewhere too.

Well, it sure sounded good!

Can you be more specific about "not running right", i.e. idle, mid range, cruise etc.

SD tune is straight forward anyway. Its done as part of any good full tune too. So dont be scared of getting an SD tune.

or altitude changes... such as i live at 4200ft.. and frequently drive to CA, to the beach area... at 50ft.. i need to keep the maf.. and if i need to keep the maf, should i be looking for a different cam? what about going with a custom cam, using the same specs but instead of 110 LSA.. i go with a 112 LSA??

Mainly just part throttle tuning needed more work. We never put it in sd, so I cant comment on that. We were still trying to use the maf. I drove it in downtown St Louis traffic and horrible construction traffic for about 6 months, part of that through last winter! In stop and go traffic it would surge like no other, sometimes dying in traffic. Mainly if you had to jump on the brakes really quick you had to stay on them and wait for it to calm down. I also tried to park so I didn't have to use reverse when it was cold. Found that out the first day all excited to drive to work, started it up put it in reverse, it surged, died, and rolled backwards . ... Just cruising around was fine, cruise control on the highway was fine too, I would get some surging and bucking on decel coming off ramps but not bad. Believe me we tuned the **** out of this thing and it still just never really ran right with the maf. Should have just went sd.

17801830 oil pump
12499224 LS6 Springs
12586482 Timing Chain
12480110 Cam

these are all SDPC part numbers. anyone care to add to it? do i need anything else besides the gaskets for the water pump and misc. fluids/lubes?
the oil pump and timing chain are supposedly high volume and high performance. idk if they will work. someone please look at them and tell me if they are.

I've really started to look at this cam in the past few days and like what I see What's the consensus on the 4.25" Pushrods that some people use with this cam to "quiet down" the valvetrain?
