Default how to prime a ls1?

Well I got my motor together and now I'm wondering how to prime it. On my old pontiacs we could do it with a distributor shaft on a cordless drill. Now, I have no idea. I thought I might pull the plugs and run the starter till I see SOME oil pressure. BTW...the engine is sitting in the back of my truck at the moment

This has come up before. Forget about it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

If you hook up everything correctly (also turn the key a couple of times and bleed the air out of the fuel rail with the Schrader valve) the engine will start and build oil pressure within 1 second of turning the key.

It's Plug n Play! I love new tech cars <img border="0" alt="[pimp]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_pimp.gif" /> .....

I grease my oil pump, disconnect the injectors, remove the plugs, ensure the filter is full, and crank. It builds quickly.

GM recognizes the issue and the following is from the shop manual:

Information on a New Engine Preluber Tool #02-06-01-008
Information on a New Engine Preluber Tool
1990-2002 All Cars and Light Duty Trucks

A new engine Preluber tool has been developed as an essential tool. This tool will be automatically shipped to all tier one and tier two dealerships. The new tool is known as J-45299 ENGINE PRELUBER.

The J-45299 ENGINE PRELUBER consists of a two gallon container, hand pump, flexible hose, adapter set and a two sided laminated instruction sheet. The engine preluber will inject clean engine oil into the engine oiling system. Following the instructions included with the tool will allow the main bearings, connecting rod bearings and the oil pump to be properly lubed. When prelubing the engine with more than the minimum recommended amount of oil, the camshaft bearings and other valve train components may also be lubricated.

Notice
Neglecting to prelube or improperly prelubing a new, remanufactured or serviced engine prior to the initial start-up may lead to premature bearing failure in the engine.

This tool should be used when installing a new engine, remanufactured engine or an overhauled engine. This tool and procedure should also be used when the crankshaft or connecting rods have been removed from the engine for any reason.

Any dealers or other interested parties can purchase this tool directly from Kent Moore by calling 1-800-345-2233.

Well i hooked up some jumper cables to the starter and let her rip. I wanted to do it now while it was EASY to have the plugs out. You also would rather find problems now while the motor is sitting in the back of the dually. It's close. Think I'll be running Thursday if I stay after it.

Sweet, keep at it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Mine's getting pretty close too. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I concure on the greased pump. Packed it pretty good with white lithium assembly lube. Should bring the pressure right up.

But don't forget to change the oil after the first few minutes. Should be a nice soupy mess <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Pull the fuse for the fuel pump and turn it over for about 10 seconds.

For you guys removing fuses, and disconnecting injectors, it would be alot easier to just remove the starter relay from the box, and jump it with a short piece of wire. Thats what I do, and you don't need to worry about ignition, or fuel delivery.
