Default Tons of oil in my intake, never used to be. wtf?

When I took the car apart last summer to put in the LS6 intake and cam, the intake was dry, no oil or anything in it. I took off my LS6 intake to sell it (I'm getting an extrude honed Holley intake and stage II heads) and to put my stock one back on, and notice there's a ton of oil in the intake. Also my car never used a drop of oil before the initial LS6 intake swap. Post swap, it uses almost a quart every 1000 miles.

I know what I need to go do - PCV mod, or just replace it with the truck pcv, metco breather, etc. What I am wondering is WHY did my car not have this problem previously, and now it does? Did the pcv just get old?

I think I forgot to mention an important thing. The oil consumption never started until my stupid mechanic put in Royal Purple synthetic. (I say stupid because I wanted a $10 oil change not a $60 oil change). Been using Mobil 1 since, but it constantly burns oil now. Was the dino stuff thick enough where it didn't make it through the pcv back into the intake?
